Not feasible in my area. You would spend a month of Sundays waiting to down load a large file. It would make the old days of 14,400kbs modems seem lighting fast. The general problem is due to overloaded cell sites, slow signal transmission, moderate (at best) to poor signal strength in most areas, etc. Just depends on the cell coverage and the provider in your area.
I think it would be better to just download your comp base from the server computer to the lap top. Now days, most lap tops have almost as much memory and ram as a tower unit.
I do it all the time. it connects at 14.4, although they are saying WCDMA will be available later this summer which should provide a lot faster connection. I use SprintPCS with a Touchpoint 2200 cell phone. Bought it about a year ago for $50.00 with a $50.00 rebate. The cable and software was about $35.00 I run it on an HP. Outside of being slow and somewhat limited in the areas it serves (I was at the lake this past weekend and it kept dropping signal while I was online) it works well.
I tried to run it on analog roam, but it would not connect either to the Sprint server or to my land line server.
