Are there any online classes on how to complete VA appraisals? I know the Appraisal Institute has an FHA class, but I didn't see anything for VA. Are the two reports similar?

Guidelines for doing VA appraisals are basically given to you when you get on the VA list. If you aren't on the list, Google "VA Lenders Handbook" and see if you can find a current one (Updated 1 Jan 2008) posted online somewhere. If you can find it online - and you may - then chapters 11 (Appraiser Requirements) and 12 (Minimum Property Requirements - MPRs) are the most relevant to appraisers and appraisals.

If the 'VA Lenders Handbook' search doesn't do it, try it under its "official" name:
Pamphlets 26-7 Guaranty of Insurance of Loans to Veterans - GI Loan Programs
