If investors thought “uncontrolled theft” was an issue, instead of an anomaly, their investments in these retail properties would be riskier, requiring a higher rate of return.
If this thread was about investors. But it is not. Large corporations like Walgreen or CVS can either absorb a certain amount of loss (which is already baked into the numbers). Or close under performing stores. Which is what They are doing in some areas.

On person caught in the smash and grab at Nordstrom in Walnut Creek was accidently released from jail.
The city found out and wants him back so he can get bail to get out.
It was a computer error. Or was that a human error.

News just came in about 2 homicide criminals accidently released without bail in San Jose.
Maybe it's the new trend in no bail going around here to help the poor who can't afford bail.

Re homicide criminals released, a criminal who stabbed two in Chicago was released without bond. He relocated to the Tampa area where he stabbed three more, including one man who had to undergo emergency surgery for a perforated intestine. Hillsboro County sheriff caught the guy, charged with attempted aggravated murder, no bail. That is how you deal with criminals.

I knew there was talk about bail reform but these recent incidents highlight the fact that these no bail reforms are being implemented across cities.
The lady who got busted was in probation from a prior incident. This time she got out with bail.

There was this 41 year old lady stealing from Target for a long time scanning the items and paying only a dollar (stole $40,000 all together).
City police caught her and on December 3, judge let her out pending court proceedings.
On December 4, she was caught shoplifting in downtown SF.

In Oakland, a weed dispensary was smashed and grabbed.
Last night, it was hit again. The alarm was on but the police was shorthanded and didn't come.
The store was smashed and grabbed whatever was left including paintings on the wall.

These incidents require police, judges, and prosecutors to be tougher on these criminals.
