I believe WWII fighters used water injection to boost power to the "war time emergency" level. But it was brutally hard on the engine, and the ground chief would try to kill the pilot who returned to base after using that setting.

High octane is for high compression motors. Higher octane will not pre-detonate under the extreme pressure of high compression motors. When you have a motor that "knocks" it is basically exploding the gasoline under pressure before the piston reaches top dead center and the spark plug fires. The mechanical bits of the engine are still trying to push the piston up into the cylinder while the explosion is trying to push it back down.

Since most racing motors are very high compression, they run very high octane fuel.

A fine mist was injected into the carb. This allowed the timing to be advanced, improving mileage. The downside is the water creates an acid in the engine, requiring frequent oil changes. Reportedly it works.

Evan easier, try some Seafoam every 2-5K miles or so. It's a motor treatment that can be put through the carb, throttle body, gas tank, crank case or main manifold vacuum line.

I used to use it with my Intrepid just to maintain her as she was old yet I did see a difference of 1-3 miles/gallon on average. It's fun too, doing it for the first time, watching all the smoke coming out the tailpipe!!! Use at your own risk. :new_smile-l:

Cools the intake air sorta like an inter-cooler..........denser fuel/air mixture.

I FOUND IT! Watertogas.com . There are three different units that can be hooked up to your engine. I don't know if they really work. Check it out!

Try driving as if you had no brakes in order to maintain momentum and a more constant speed, don't come to a complete stop at stop signs, avoid jackrabbit accelerations, and do the speed limit. It works!
