I know a good bit about Highlands and the Lake Toxaway Area (grew up mostly in Brevard). In commercial training, I use to tag along with a real good commercial appraiser who did a lot of work on the mountain. Bunch of filthy rich people for one. Did you know that Harvey Firestone, Thomas Edison and many of their equally well known contemporaries from our history books use to all go there together to party? They sure did. The had their own train line and everything. I once appraised a property that had a section of that private track on it. They sure did it right!
Currently several celebrities call Highlands and Cashiers home (at least in the summer or the sky season).
I am at the bottom of the hill in Rabun Co., GA. I grew up on Lake Burton as my summer home. Boy, the lake properties have become just as outrageous as those in Highlands. Now I live out side of Clayton full time and do appraisals in the Highlands and Franklin area of Macon County. I have a request for a lot appraisal in Jackson Co., and that is just a little too far.
Mell.
If this is the Lake Glenville or Bear Lake area I may be able to help. A couple of the guys that use to work out of our office covers Haywood and Jackson Counties. But have almost stopped the Highlands work due to the distance and difficulty in this. Our office use to get 5 - 10 requests a month to go to the Highlands and Cashiers area. If your interested, and they still get these, maybe we can work something out. These appraisals usually bring a high premium for this area. I think these guys routinely billed $500 - $600 per appraisal. I would have to check since the guys stopped going there we may not get that many requests anymore.
