At this point I know of only very few colleges that churn out smart graduates ready to hit the ground running in commercial appraisal. From what I have found, most grads, even if they have a "real estate" major, have had only the most basic appraisal exposure with their classes focusing more on real estate investments etc.

So here is the question: What are the best schools to recruit appraisers from? Please only list a school if you know that they offer at least one (ideally two) courses focused on real estate appraisal.

Thanks!

U of Wisconsin has traditionally had the best reputation. I've also seen successful graduates of U of Florida and Georgia State U.

Florida State University (I'm partial I guess), Univ of Florida, Texas A&M

Oregon State University Department of Geosciences ;)

University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of International Business. ;)

Oregon State University Department of Geosciences ;)

Ditto that!

I think its less important what College you recruit from than what department in the college you recruit from.

Geosciences is a good place to start looking.

The mental "tricks" a good appraiser uses....things like absorbing a bunch of data and developing a good conceptual grasp of a market, characterizing a unique entity and drawing points of comparison with other different unique entities, making good conclusion based on a partial data set....are all very similar to the things a geologist does.

Also, a geologist will have the ability to do good work in the field (competent note takers, have their tools with them, and a good idea for the important things to observed and recorded).

Biologists might be pretty good.

Texas A&M has had a graduate real estate program since late 70's. Check out the "Texas Real Estate Center" Website.

Skippy U. !!!!!

Lousy football team but great with making the final score just what the bookie needs.
