Hello!

I have my appraisal license and plan to get certified this year. I have only had principles and the USPAP and property inspection so far. What class is recommended that I take next? Thanks! :)

Take the Appraisal Institute class on residential appraising. Any classes you can find on the sales comparison approach and spend a lot of time on boards like this forum asking questions. At this stage of your education, don't waste time taking classes on off the wall subjects. I haven't seen a good CE class on anything really relevant lately. Get a copy of the Appraisal Institute's Work Book and practice working the problems. Get into data analysis and there are some new books out on that subject too.

Debra.

I would also recommend the Appraisal Institute's Course 210: Residential Case Study. (The first class Austin mentioned). I took the class several weeks ago and thought it was great. It helped me understand how appraisals can be more quantitative and less subjective. It's not offered all that often, I had been waiting three years for the course to be held somewhere near me. Wish I had taken it sooner.

Mix of students in my class -- most were just starting as appraisers, but appraisers with more experience definitely can get a lot out of the class.

Austin,

Any books in particular on data analysis? I am starting to get interested in regression and I'm currently working my way through a textbook in applied statistics.

cgjgr: The AI has a book out on regression and I believe I saw one of their's recently on using data analysis. Check their book of publications. Real estate appraising is nothing but data analysis, do I can't think of a more appropriate course or book.
