Sorry, having problems searching this morning.

On the exterior of the house, the triangle area under the roof line but above the first story wall is called what?

I am thinking it is the piedmont. ^

I thought the term gable described the type of roof. Anyway, there is no siding on the South gable of the house.

It is the "gable end".

Noun 1. gable end - the vertical triangular wall between the sloping ends of gable roof

Gable...unless you are talking about the soffits and fascia board that cover the eaves, or attic vents?

Multi-use term. There is a "gable" roof type, but front/rear/end "gables" themselves can be used in several other roof types as well, like in "hip & gable", etc.

The way you used it above appears correct to me. Though using cardinal directions can cause some people to become lost. I often state it as the front or rear, left or right (as viewed from?) since most repair people don't carry compasses with them.

I just describe as siding near roof line . . . see photo.

Another learning moment on the forum. Thanks Tom.
