This is a repeat post for the new forum.
 Does anyone use WinFax (or similar) to receive faxes on your computer? How does it work with a voice mail or answering machine? I don't want to spend money on another phone line if this will work.
Mell N.GA.

Mell, I use win fax with my computer, can be on line and receive a fax at the same time, I have DSL for computer and fax, Also have a phone with voice mail for my business, don't know if that helps. DLS for 2 lines approx. 50 and phone approx 25. Hope this helps. Wade

I use Hotfax Message Center. I quit using Winfax back when all it did was handle faxes. I do not have DSL (not yet in my part of the country  ) yet.

I have two telephone lines. One residential (which is what I use for my online stuff) and One business. Both lines are connected to modems....one computer. My business is handled on one line only. Hotfax will answer the phone, detect fax, data, or voice and take a message, take a fax or allow me to file share. When I get a fax or a message, the computer will call my cell phone and leave a message on my sms service (Kind of like being paged with a text message on your cell phone).

I no longer use my fax machine or answering machine at all. I do have the phone companies voice mail service for those times the system is busy....but it is voice only.

Beginning this spring, I will no longer use inbound fax here. I will be getting an 800 fax number that faxes to e-mail. At that point, my business number will be a non-ringing number.....it will automatically forward to a cell phone.

I want, by the end of spring, to be totally office free. All work will be done in the field.

I use Efax.com Pretty nice if you have DSL it automatically sends all incoming faxes to your email account. I have a stand alone fax for sending things out.

This is a repeat from the old forum, don't know if you had a chance to read it before Wayne rolled over to the new system.

WinFax usually has TalkWorks bundled with it, which is like having a virtual-answering machine on your PC. You have to have a data/fax/voice modem for it all to work correctly. Also check to see if your modem supports 'adaptive answer' to determine if it is a fax or data call. If it does you can configure WinFax to hand a data call off to LapLink or PC Anywhere and have remote control of your desktop from a remote location.

Thanks for your replys or re-replys 8)
I think I will give one of the computer systems a try and dump my answering service. I like the idea of LapLink to be able to access from a report computer.
Mell.
