Yeah but,

Economies of scale. The "potential" $20 billion would be about 18,000 acres of pot if the prices stayed stable and one acre could net $1.1 million. The current $6 Billion industry would mean about 5,500 acres of pot being grown. Triple the production and price drops dramatically.

About 45,000,000 acres of wheat are planted every year just in the U.S.

Tobacco sells for about $2/pound and is grown on 325,000 acres.

Increase pot production to 50,000 acres and watch the profit of pot to be marginal and very competitive.

I imagine more people consume wheat than smoke joints, and increased cannabis consumption would probably only increase wheat consumption.

Fake news. The comparison of raw wheat by the bushel to very high end finished product medicinal quality pot is ridiculous at best. Most of the high end pot is not grown by the "acre" but are in hydroponic farms indoors with carefully controlled heat and humidity etc. They are starting to grow industrial hemp in NC with more typical growing conditions to wheat etc but the professor quoted is a moron.

Also they don't just bale whole plants, they trim away the sticks and leaves and keep the flower tops.
