I have Zone Alarm installed, and have seen about 25-30 attempts a day to get past my firewall. I have Comcast Cable Modem and many of these attempts are from them, I have determined. I saw some news last week where Comcast had to quit "spying' on their customers...and wonder if any of you knew anything about this.

Charlotte,

Last summer I had a hacker attack. After I installed a router and firewall, I was amazed by the number of attempts to get into my computer!!! It pretty well stopped in a few weeks since they could no longer get in. Anyone on cable modem is high on their list because without the firewall it's so easy for them to get in.

Face it, variations of Big Brother and 'marketing' research' are behind many of these along with some teen hackers just proving they can do it. The way my nephew explains it is that the firewall will stop most attacks but also just creates a challenge to some to get around it. He tells me that with the router, they don't even know I exist.

Now you know as much as I know about this.

Charlotte,
I have been reading about Zone Alarm and started looking for it. Can you tell me where it is or how to find it.

Charlotte,

I have Comcast also. Last week they had a modem sychronization problem. They always seem to have problems and if you call them they will ping your modem to see if your connected. My guess would be, they were pinging lots of modems to get them back in sych.

I just got an email today from the new comcast.net email server-5 hours after it was sent. Great service. I guess we can expect more screw-ups as they learn.

I get the same thing. The other day it kept telling me that comcast support agent was trying to gain server rights on my system. I just click no, but it does get rather bothersome after a while. Right now I have the comcast support agent installed, I wonder if I took that off of my computer if it would make a difference?

Paul.....I know what you mean and I don't like Comcast having free rights to roam. I KNOW I saw part of something on T.V. about Comcast being denied rights to access computers to find out what our habits are. I believe they got their wrists slapped.

Not sure why comcast keeps trying to "phone home", but you can set Zone-Alarm to reject all requests for web access &/or server rights just by checking the box to remember your response, the next time Zone-Alar's permission query pops up. 8)
