Cemetery appraisal

FWIW, slightly off topic but in this state, cemeteries have the power of eminent domain if they need more room for their 'customers' and are unable to convince an adjacent owner to sell. Strange but true.

OTOH, I own an empty plot in a crowded cemetery. Mom/Dad had plots. Dad died, was cremated and his ashes spread at his favorite fishing hole. Mom died and we used one plot and put both names on one grave marker. Cemetery says they sell the few remaining plots for about $5K. I offered to sell this one for $1K to them; they weren't interested. I guess they thought I'd just deed it over to them. LOL! I guess Mom will have an empty space on one side for eternity.
Interesting about eminent domain. I know in some places they are stacking the remains.

Be sure to account for functional obsolescence in those jurisdictions where alternatives are expanding.

Can't believe plots so cheap there.
The plots I looked at range from $20K to $50K depending on location. Of course, I chose the best location available (the ones near the ex mayor were all gone) with a view along with additional plots for my wife and family. You know that prices will just keep going up.

You can bury here for $350. But my plot was paid by my grandfather 60 years ago. He wanted to make sure all his grandchildren had a plot and all near each other.

Some states are also allowing what’s called chemical cremation. Seems more energy efficient than burning.
