Digital Pen

Ted, I believe that DAY ONE has already integrated both of these technologies into their software package. You might check it out.

Thanks for the heads up, only problem is I'm using ACI and don't really want to have to spend a couple of grand on new software so I can use a $200 toy.

DB,

I'm a big fan of the Digital Pen but use Wintotal.

What has Day One done with it?

I would like to see appraisal forms printed on digital paper. You could fill the form out in the field, dock the pen when you get back, and all your data entry fields are done.

Same concept as the Pocket PC but easier, cheaper, and more functional. I've tried the Pocket PC but I just like to write on real paper.

I use Appraise-It personally, but have been reading up on the Day One and even got a demo ... it looks like that is exactly what they have done, is incorporated their forms with the pen .... I am still trying to get clarification from them, but if that is what they have done, it is going to be a wonderful thing and possibly worth the cost to switch.

The draw back I was is that you have to keep buying the paper from DayOne.

I just bought a Palm and their software (one time purchase) and I love it. I know a lot of folks don't like using PDA's but I am loving mine! and no refills to buy either.

I saw a review of the digital pen and the reviewer was able to photocopy the form rather than buy the more expensive preprinted forms. The weakness was in the OCR function.

I have yet to see a well written Palm or PersonalPC appraisal program, the software people all aren't really looking at the appraisal process, rather they simply mimic the forms.

What I would really like is for my desktop software to have software hooks so I could develope my own field system.

Ted,

Do you have Excel or Adobe Acrobat 5.0 or 6.0 Pro versions?

Interesting! Wouldn't have thought of copying the paper. Just assumed you had to buy it. Interesting!

Not sure what you are looking for and you have me curious. I just wanted to use my Palm to replace my clipboard and paper.

I used to use the first page of the URAR and write out notes to myself. So when I switched the Palm it was a simple switch. Dayones software allows me to jump from one section to another and that works well for me. Plus it stores my standard comments in a drop down list in each field. If I need something different I usually just write a brief reminder and they edit the comment on the desktop.

Of course everyone works different!
