Looking for guidance, assistance, advice - anything!

Just moved from out of state and purchased a manufactured home. It is 13 years old, and the data plate states that it is a Schult A/B 1406. Unfortunately, there is no Model Name, which is needed to use NADA Guides. Insurance companies won't take the appraisal to determine the value of the home, it must be acquired via NADA guides.

m2:

Anyway, I have reached the end of my rope. I have emailed Clayton, who purchased Schult Homes, and they can't help. I've called half a dozen manufacturers, hoping for someone who has been in the business and can advise me on the model name to go along with this model number. I have called HUD in D.C., and they referred me to an office in Georgia where the home was originally manufactured, but I don't think they're going to be able to provide me with the Model Name either.

Is there a reference site or book I can find that will tell me what the Model Name is? I cannot use Schult as the Make and the Model on NADA, as it returns a value at less than half of the appraised and purchased price.

I *think* it is a Legacy model, based on some 2014 floorplans I have come across online, but our home is a 2001, and if it is a Legacy I, or a Legacy Mod, or whatnot - I do not know.

Any (and I mean ANY) advice would be gladly received and greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Eddie. I have searched that site before and it doesn't look like their service will cover the Model Name, only verifying some of the other information on the data plate. I have sent them a message to see if their services actually will help in this instance. In the meantime, any other ideas? =)

Others will be able to provide assistance as well. I do not have experience with this manufacturer, but is there a place on the data plate for a model name and it's blank? Is it possible there is no model name? How was it insured before? Can previous owner assist here? Sounds like you've already been down those paths.

The next thought is that you will need to find the original title or copy from the builder or installer. Maybe the IBTS can assist with that.

I have, on rare occasions, found that info on prior deeds when the home becomes real property on the site. Good luck

Thanks Eddie. I am waiting on the original manufacturer details from Georgia. Perhaps that will shed some light.

The section on the dataplate for the Model/Trade name only says A/B 1406. On the appraisal, inspection report and engineer report, the model is listed as A/B 1406. So far there is no mention of a model name.

I am unable to locate the previous owners. I know they were divorcing, but even our neighbors cannot get in touch with them. It is as thought they have fallen of the face of the planet.

I have contacted other insurance brokers, local builders, Clayton Homes, our appraiser the US Dept of HUD in DC, Commissioner of Insurance and Safety in Georgia, MH Quote... etc...

Wondering, do you think the patent office would have anything like this? Would each model of a mobile home have to have its own patent?

Just reaching for anything...

Is it possible to take a clear photo of the Data Plate and post here? There should be a serial number preceding the A/B, as the A/B represents the two sections. Shultz is the manufacturer and 1406 will be the Model number.

The serial number is also stamped on the steel beam undercarriage but that is never fun to locate.

I am not familiar with insurance protocol, but I would think that providing a correct model and serial number along with the HUD tags, would be adequate....

I assume the HUD tags are still attached?

Yes, I can. I even took close ups and broke the data plate down into sections. Insurance companies are a little more finicky since the major hurricanes... they won't insure without a model name (not a number).

Yes, HUD tags are attached, can send those too. Those are the numbers I provided to the Insurance Commissioner's office in Georgia, and it's what she's using to pull from archives.

If there is anything else I can provide, just let me know. I already can't thank you enough for offering up ideas. =)

1046 is the model number.

Hi Mr. Rex!

I know the model # - but NADA guides doesn't report by Model Number. I need the Model Name equivalent. Typically it is located on the data plate, except in this instance. Any other ideas?

I would find an insurance agent who knows what they are doing.

I have to believe that yours is not the only home manufactured by Schult in 2001 which is identified by a model number on the data plate.
