Nj Renewals

Actually, it's not that big of an increase from 4 years ago, which was 2 cycles ago. For the last renewal we only had to pay the federal part to get listed"..

Well there ya go... this is only my second renewal. The first at $85 seemed very low compared to the fees I paid getting the license. But this seemed way high. Thanks for explaining the jump.

That fee is actually more in line with what the fees always were. I've had my license since day one (1992) and the fees were always around $675 with the exception of one renewal period
which was 2013.

The way the Board was originally set up was that it was supposed to be self supporting through fees/fines etc; i.e. they would get no support from the general fund to run the operation.

I don't know if that's still true.

I expect to see a mad rush for the exits with a $675 renewal. A lot of NJ appraisers have been on the sidelines for a few years and only kept their licenses active ecause of the cheap renewal
last time around.

It was 85 I think last renewal which is much more reasonable. I've been paying and renewing for 25 years. They can have that attitude but appraisers should voice that it's not reasonable and what are we paying for? The person I spoke with said that engineers and accountants pay $125.

My wife is an RN and for years she paid under $100. It might be $125 now

Doctors pay less, Lawyers pay less, Real Estate Brokers pay less, everyone pays less and the board has five vacancies!!
Oh yes, the director knows nothing about appraisal, he is a lawyer.
I wonder how many appraisers based in PA and NY will drop their NJ licenses

The first one or two renewals were around $300 (as I recall) and then it jumped up the year the background checks were done and never went back down. I went to a seminar were Barry Krauser spoke a few months ago and he basically said they would like to regulate AMCs in NJ but they were overworked, with only four people on the board. What the hell are we paying for?
