Porch vs Patio vs Deck vs Stoop vs Balcony. Discuss

A porch is in front. Maybe open uncovered, maybe covered, screened or even enclosed. In front it's a porch.

In back or on the sides it's a patio. Covered, uncovered, whatever. Unless it's made of wood or wood substitute, then it's a deck. So there's some overlap.

If it's on top a roof, it's a deck, no matter what it's made of. If it sticks out over open space, it's a balcony. :leeann2:

Now, how about cabana, casita, rec room. :peace:

If it's attached in front, its a porch, but if it's attached in back, it'a a deck? Lee, I lived in CA for 15 years (in your neck of the woods) and have never heard such a thing.

We don't have such crappy weather that all porches need roofs.

A deck is a deck, a porch is a porch. Alot of houses in the south have front porches that are not covered.
