I just realized that, according to the appraisal, he used a combination of Redlink, MLS, & FMLS for data on the comparables. I'm going to see if my broker and/or lender can look in those databases to find those numbers.
As for hiring someone to measure the house, I'm trying not to pour any more money into the house at this point. The appraisal recommended that a home inspection be done and that "Appraised value could change upon inspect conclusion" - I paid for the inspection, which revealed (among other items that directly refuted the appraiser's "evaluations") some structural issues that will require a structural engineer to evaluate - but the appraiser, as told to me via the lender, refuses to adjust the value even after being provided with the inspection.

Metro Atlanta area appraisers have a subscription tool (red link) available to them that they rely on. You haven't said what county you are in. If you have questions about the GLA you could always hire someone to measure the house, maybe even allow you to hold the dumb end of the tape, and explain what they are doing in the process.
