I am a Wintotal user. I used ACI about 5 years ago. I still have the old license and a new update. I changed to Wintotal at the time since it had some better integration features with maps, etc. But now I notice ACI has many of the same features. I'm thinking about going back to ACI for various reasons.

How does the pocket PC program work with ACI since I use a PDA (use a Dell)? I notice there are two choices. Which is the best? Which sketching program do you use?

Thanks.

I don't have any experience with ACI's Pocket PC program, but I wanted to let you know that you can use Apex within ACI to get sketches from your current copy of MobileSksetch, so you are covered there.

Let me know if you need help with this.

I use pocket pc on a dell axim and it works decent enough. I couldn't get active sync to work and ended up having to go into the pocket pc and copy the files over. Kind of a pain and ACI tech support are NOT helpful at all on pocket pc issues. There isn't a manual for it nor any kind of help menu either. You pretty much have to figure it out all on your own and I still haven't figured out how to save common responses. That said I do like using it and will probably get apex for it soon.

Which Pocket PC do you have and which version of the operating system is it running? Maybe I can help you get ActiveStynk running or some 3rd party alternative. Glad to help on that if I can.

Randall,

I currently use Mobile Sketch for my PDA program on Wintotal. I assume if I have it loaded on my pocket pc it will work with the ACI program. Correct? Wouldn't want to change because it works great.

James,

The Wintotal PDA program has two choices. You can actually use the same responses that are in your program, or you can use one that you have put in the Pocket PC program. I'm surprised that you can't get common responses on the ACI program saved. I'll have to check that out, because that is invaluable. That's where the time is saved.

Also have you figured out the pocket sync problem? I haven't had a problem with that in Wintotal. So I'm curious. The PDA is so valuable to me with regard to time saved in the field that I certainly wouldn't want to have issues with syncing etc.

Anyway keep perservering with it, because once you get it working right I don't know why anyone uses paper and pencil anymore when taking notes. It saves me at least 15 to 30 minutes per appraisal not having to enter twice and sketch the house twice.

I have an Axim x51v running Windows Mobile 5.0. To be more clear, Active Sync does work, but I can't get it to import/export from ACI using the icon in ACI.

I am not sure that ACI's PPC program integrates with MobileSketch. It may, but I simply do not know. You may, however, use your Apex program to get sketches to and from the PPC.

Look on your PPC to see if MobileSketch shows up on your Start menu or if it shows up when you select Start|Programs. Once you find it, select it from your menu or double tap the MobileSketch icon.

Draw a box, or whatever. Save it as something like "123 Main" and exit.

Dock your PPC and sync up as normal.

Run your forms program and launch Apex as normal. In Apex, select "Import..." from the File menu. On the dialog that pops up, notice the "Handheld" icon in the upper right corner. Selecting that will look on your Pocket PC (if synchronized) for sketches in the default \My Documents\Apex\ folder. Note the options at the bottom of the window - the most common defaults are checked, but you may select other options. Select your file and select the [OK] button - the sketch will come into your report.

Modify/enhance the sketch as desired. If you don't like the PPC colors, select "Apply Code Table Settings" from the view menu. This will use whatever fonts, sizes, colors that you normally use in desktop sketching. Some folks like to use larger fonts and/or vibrant colors when sketching in the field. Once you are happy, save and exit back to your forms program.

The reverse works if you want to send a sketch from your Apex desktop to your Pocket PC for review, editing, etc.

So, to summarize:

Sketch on your PPC, save and exit.
Run Apex and select File/Import
Enhance your sketch and save/exit.

Hope this helps... I think we have an old video showing this - I'll look.

I use Mobile sketch with ACI. The trick is the version you save your drawing. Try saving as version 2.9. Then the drawing will show up when you do retreive. Otherwise APEX doesn't recognize the drawing format and does not display it in the files list.

Kathleen:

What version of Apex are you using with ACI? (Use the Help/About menu item in Apex.) You should not have to save in an old format. It sounds like you are having to jump through some extra hoops. I think we can make that less of an issue.
