McDonalds Threatens to Drop Insurance

Read some of Ed Deeming's economic theory's.
If these companies would create an work environment that makes the employee want to stick around ( this would include health insurance ) their bottom line would increase by the simple expediancy of a lower cost to train new people.

Who would want to stick around working for a fast food restaurant, it is a transition job. Any restaurant has high turnover, it is the nature of the biz. Besides, how long does it take to train someone to ask if you want fries with that...

I've been paying for my own healthcare since 1977, screw it. Pay your own way.

I agree. My point is that something as important as health insurance should not be left up to the whims of an employer.

The current employment environment is the perfect time to slash benefits for non skilled workers, the supply of workers exceeds the demand. Could this be the real reason that, Macs and others, are cutting benefits hiding behind the legislation. Nah, corporations never do anything like that.

People like to paint corporations with a broad brush. Keep in mind that those corporations include mom-and-pop shops. Even if they don't have to pay for others, they have to pay for themselves. A few hundred dollar hit per month for mom and pop can mean they don't hire a part-time worker...and often they aren't.

There is always the mom and pop shop. I agree with you about them.

However, the OP was about large, multi-national corporations.

Large multi-national companies can and will move headquarters to another country without such requirements.

Locally run units will continue to utilize temp workers to avoid having to meet the requirements.

It is unrealistic to think requiring insurers to cover everyone, regardless of preexisting conditions, would not raise rates.

Economic reality dictates what applies to the large applies to the small. Government naturally doesn't treat it that way. But the same reasons why the large corporations don't hire or give benefits are the same reasons small mom and pop shops don't hire or give benefits...it's the bottom line.

Not sure if this is true or not this is an email I received this morning. If this is true how many people will reconsider selling there homes in a couple of years. This will have a severe negative impact on the number of appraisals being ordered in the coming years.

Did you know that if you sell your house after 2012 you will pay a 3.8% sales tax on it?

That’s $3,800 on a $100,000 home etc.

When did this happen? It’s in the healthcare bill. Just thought you should know.

SALES TAX TO GO INTO EFFECT 2013 (Part of HC Bill)
REAL ESTATE SALES TAX

Under the new health care bill - did you know that all real estate transactions will be subject to a 3.8% Sales Tax? The bulk of these new taxes don't kick in until 2013 (presumably after obama’s re-election). You can thank Nancy, Harry and Barack and your local Democrat Congressman for this one. If you sell your $400,000 home, there will be a $15,200 tax. This bill is set to hurt the retiring generation who often downsize their homes.
