Has anyone received their renewal for NJ yet? Any ideas on what the fee will be this time?

The fee for nj is $630! Which is outrageous! I contacted the board today inquiring why it is so high. I was not given an answer and was told someone would call back. No one did. I urge other appraisers to question this ridiculous renewal cost. They are gouging appraisers.

You are tilting at windmills. They could care less if you think the renewal fee is too high and their attitude likely is something along the lines of if you don't like it, then you can choose not to renew.

It was 85 I think last renewal which is much more reasonable. I've been paying and renewing for 25 years. They can have that attitude but appraisers should voice that it's not reasonable and what are we paying for? The person I spoke with said that engineers and accountants pay $125.

I am not arguing that the renewal fee is reasonable. What I am stating is that it would be surprising if any state board bureaucrat cares or that they have any power to change the renewal fee even if they do care.

We have a board that controls the price, based on the budget they can adjust as I understand it. So they are internally funded...and no one outside the board has cast longing eyes at poaching the cash they accumulate. Oklahoma, OTOH, is run by the State Insurance commission which is funded by budget regardless the money generated and they are bare bones compared to the much smaller state of Arkansas. Go figure. Both were exactly $340 this year.

Tracy, I don't think it is unusual not to get a return call. I found that was generally the case when calling that board.
That's one heck of an increase

Actually, it's not that big of an increase from 4 years ago, which was 2 cycles ago. For the last renewal we only had to pay the federal part to get listed on the ASC site. There was a surplus in the board's budget and they waived most, if not all, of the fee. Guess no surplus this time.

And, yeah, I don't and never did understand why it was almost double PA's renewal fee.

I wonder what would happen if everyone refused to pay this outrageous amount?
maybe we should all drop appraisal and do BPO's with no license!
