Since I was driving all afternoon I ended up listening to the full Doug Ducey State of Arizona speech today. I think we may be in for some interesting times in AZ. You may recall that last January Ducey dissolved the AZ Board of Appraisal and transferred their staff to the AZ Dept of Financial Institutions. A couple weeks ago I heard something about some temporary replacement to the head of ADFI because the current one had resigned but then I heard that the temporary replacement was also sent somewhere else and no word who the current one might be, if there is one yet.

In today's speech Ducey carried on at length about all the needless regulations for small business and exhaustive barriers to entry for business competition. And he particularly mentioned that there are way too many jobs that require state licensing. Will be interesting to see how things play out if he decides to eliminate the appraiser license program.

AZ in my opinion is a POS State and deserves whatever it gets , I loved it in the seventies and eighties but the politicians sold it out and outside of Northern AZ and some of the smaller communities the Phoenix metro area is worse than Central Los Angeles. At least in the bad areas of Los Angeles the weather is 70 to 90 most of the year and 20 minutes to the beach. Phoenix Metro is like living in Hell. :) LOL

Appraisal licensing is controlled by the AQB and is a national level issue, not state. Whether he likes it or not, there is nothing Ducey can do about it. He cannot eliminate appraisal licensing nor make it harder/easier to be licensed. I imagine he is focused on lessor licensing, such as cosmetologists, general business licensing, etc..

Not sure how the turmoil at the top of DFI will affect appraisers.

Agree with erockinaz. Appraiser Licensing is a national requirement that was to be implemented by the individual states. Eliminating it in AZ and not the other states would cause more problems than it would fix. I just got my Certified Res. in Arizona and I doubt Mr. Duecy would consider refunding all those fees

Phoenix metro worse than Central LA huh? I think you must smoke some of that white, rock like substance that can be found in central LA. Parts of Phx are no picnic but only the "socio economical" challenged areas and there's only a few small areas(parts of S Phx) that I'm not comfortable with. Don't disagree on the weather though. Wearing sunscreen 8 months out of the year gets tiring but if it was in the 70s here like Ca. there would be another 20 million people jammed into this state. Who wants that? Oh yeah, Ca guys do.

I just rented one of my homes to a guy that lived in LA. Said it took him 90 minutes to go 10 miles to work each morning. He couldn't believe how he could get to his new job here in 15 minutes..Enjoy that traffic and all those people and I'll buy another hat.

I'm not a big fan of any downtown area. But the traffic in LA makes it a special kind of hell. Its 20 minutes to the beach at only a few brief periods during the day and only if your a couple miles......make that blocks away ! Yes I've lived there.:eyecrazy:

Pretty sure Phoenix does not have a skid row to compare to L.A.

Now that is a hell hole and a huge black eye on the city and county. Embarrassing and fubar, Mr Mayor. :fencing:

Anyway, back to AZ. :peace:

He is exactly right. Appraisers are required to be licensed. They can't do much about that. Many states have barber and cosmology as separate boards. etc. My state regulates too much and has too many boards. I spent Saturday afternoon getting a pesticide and herbicide applicator license. That is to apply a nonregulated herbicide...but I can't buy it in Arkansas in bulk quantities (over 1 quart) without a license. Regulated by the plant board. I can go across the border in OK and buy all I want. We have an Athletic Training Board, Landscape Architect and Interior designer board. We have boards for recycling, rice promotion and catfish promotion...on and on.

Phoenix suffers from sprawl but the road system seems fine compared to many places. Lee can attest that NW Arkansas has some pretty difficult traffic to negotiate and the state flower of Arkansas is an orange traffic barrel.

My GPS (I blame it, not me lol) led me through construction traffic he!! NE of the airport last year.
I was fuming but got there in time. :leeann2:
