I don't think the state's minimum wage is $15/hr yet. My high school daughter is getting paid as a tutor about $11/hr from the school but the private market here is willing to pay at $15/hr. She's thrill making money as disposable spending money. After college, I expect her to make much more. You can't live on $15/hr. The state should instead train adults to have better paying jobs.
Of course not, the current state wide minimum wage is $10 per hour, today. Yet, businesses are making long range plans of where they want to be. Those companies that are labor intensive or labor sensitive are the ones leaving California.
Expect fast food companies to automate in California. You get your minimum wage but you will have fewer workers.
Under existing law, California's minimum wage will increase from $9.00 per hour to $10.00 per hour on January 1, 2016. This measure increases the minimum wage to $11.00 per hour, effective January 1, 2017, and by $1.00 each of the next four years, to $15.00 per hour on January 1, 2021.
