Did I Miss Something?

The other day I received an advertisement for a course on New Jersey Appraisal Laws and Regulations which is Mandatory. Since all appraisal licenses are due for renewal by December31 I was shocked to learn about this requirement in an ad so late in the year. When did the state inform appraisers of this requirement? Is this course in addition to the 28 required hours or does it take the place of two hours? Am I wrong to think that the commission should have informed appraisers of this new requirement?

did you check with the state to see if it is really required? could be an advertising ploy to get you to take the class.

The board passed the resolution requiring this 2 hour course in April 2015. It is required for renewal and must be taken every 2 years. It is included in the 28 hours

PA has the same 2 hour requirement, DE requires 3 hours. <Shrug>
Taking the very same course every 2 years is more than boring, but, less than torture.

I checked the Board website and I found is no mention of this new requirement. Did the Board ever bother to tell the appraisers about this requirement or were we supposed to find out about it through osmosis?
As soon as I found out about this requirement I search for a course provider in south Jersey. The closest to me was Temple University in Philadelphia. I enrolled in the course scheduled for this coming wednesday 11/8 .
Today I received a call from Temple telling me that the class was cancelled due to lack of enrollment. Perhaps because appraisers don't know that it is required?

Thanks for pointing that out Joe. I actually read that page but didn't notice the mention of the requirement in the last paragraph. I think that it proves my point that the Commission took no action to inform appraisers of something so important as a change in continuing education policy. The commission could have notified each us by mail or if they were cheap enough by e-mail.

As a licensee it is YOUR obligation to stay current with the rules, regulations, laws, etc. It seems it was clearly posted on the web site despite your acknowledgement of having looked at it.

Howard, the notice wasn't at all clear, it was in the last paragraph of a boring article about license renewal.
The new Jersey board does nothing to notify appraisers of important changes, just as it does nothing about BPO's or AMC's in our state. I n fact the board has more vacancies than active members. About the only thing that the board does well is collect absurdly high license fees!
