Does anybody use “open office”?

I don't use it currently but did for quite a long time. It did everything that I needed it too.

I need to try it. Does it have an equivalent to excel? I have read a little about it but not much.

Yes it has similar products to word and excel.

I used to use it, but it has some glitches back then. I went back to MSword, Excell, and Access.

I suggest you try Libre Office. I have used it for years. I also tried Open Office, but Libre Office worked better.

Word Perfect for me is the best word processor. Lots of advantages over Word. And you can run it in Word mode, which does not make sense to me, but if a dyed in the wool Word user, you can. Same with Quattro Pro, it can be run with an Excel menu and will read xls files. WP is affordable too. I still do not want cloud software. Don't know what I will do when they force that upon everyone, but I have no desire whatsoever to pay a monthly fee for software, but I suspect some look alike programs will be sold.

I have found no PDF programs that compare to Adobe Acrobat. So I have been buying extra copies of 9 and 10...hopefully that will tide me over until I push daisies.

Ok, so is “open office” or “libreoffice” cloud based? I am upgrading big time on speed on hardware and trying to minimize outgo.

Open Office and Libre Office are free programs. They are not cloud based. They run on your computer. Google Docs is cloud based. That means Google can scan your documents and lock you out of them if they deem them inappropriate. They have done this recently to a National Geographic writer who couldn't get to a story she was writing. Cloud based is just a newer version of the old dumb terminal/mainframe setup where the admins are in total control of what you can do with a computer.
