TN Bill To Kill Appraiser License Requirement

Then you won’t / shouldn’t be concerned when a dishwasher or bartender competes with licensed people by offering tattoos in the back room for discounted prices
Of course not. As a consumer, I should have the right to choose the cheap/potentially hazardous services provided by unlicensed folks (so long as those services don't potentially harm someone else). I just would be opposed to those consumers then filing some kind of civil tort because the 'artist' misspelled MOM...

Well ok then. Bartenders and dishwashers shouldn’t be held back , restrained or constrained! They, as well as dog walkers and roofers can add bridge building and road construction to their list of services since engineering and architecture licensing are being identified as unnecessary. They can then hire unlicensed building contractors- lol :)

if you can call an evaluation - an appraisal - but it is not an appraisal, what is left?

It seems that this bill has been killed...

well, serves you right for that stupid dancing gnome on a mushroom... and a license doesn't mean you won't get a serious infection. Happens all the time.

Thanks for the info. Since you're in TN, any scuttlebutt about who pushed the bill and why?

The push to eliminate licensing is coming and being brought to you by the Koch Brothers ( What is left of them). This is big stuff in libertarian and conservative think tanks. I would say there is a very good chance of this happening in the next 10 years.

Any reasonably objective history of the appraisal profession would - IMO - at least argue that licensing was a significant part of its decline, if not its death knell. When a state issued license became the single most imporant credential for an appraiser, professional appraisers started their losing battle trying to defend their profession - someone's License #12345 was deemed all the evidence a client needed to satisfy regulatory requirements, and those letters appended after an appraiser's name - SRA, IFA, RM and all ther rest - became irrelevant for most residential work.

AMAZINGLY STUPID

"the written agreement must acknowledge that:

(1) The customer is aware that the person is not licensed, registered, or certified for the work being performed; and
(2) The customer releases the person performing the work from all liability that may arise from the person’s performance of the work, except for an action brought for intentional, willful, or malicious conduct.

This bill authorizes a party not privy to the written agreement to bring an action against either party to the written agreement when the party is injured from the actions deriving from the written agreement."
