I have worked a few hundred state board cases. If you want to chat just reach out by PM. I would not discuss too much in a public forum

I would talk to your E&O company very first thing. Send them the complaint form. If you have a personal lawyer send it to them also.

Get your work file organized and make copies of it. Your E&O company will help you.

Correct if you do not report any complain to your E & O Provider you risk
100%. I have never seen an E&O policy that did not require immediate notification in the event of a complaint
Correct if you fail to notify your carrier you risk losing your coverage. Although most policies don't cover a very large amount on State Board Complaints anyway most now are only $5K to $10K BUT sometimes their legal can give guidance to the appraiser and help come up with a strategy including getting an-extension to give the appraiser time to establish a good work file and defense and-what to not say or do. In general forums are not good places for legal advice and yes we all want to help but often we hurt more than help. Each State Board is different and some are real brutal and others quite appraiser friendly in CA I have seen some real horror stories over the years including friends who got hammered.

They may provide like so much in personal legal expense for a lawyer to appear with them.

Well politics are involved many times. If you have any political ties in your favor, use them. You realize the board is govt appointed and nominated by people who are on the board.

They are not elected officials. You need legal representation. Use your E&O money and any other political affiliations you may have. Buy some time.

They can wait.
