Your measuring and sketching process

Well, I was in commercial so hard to get teared up over multi billion $ corporations and REITs getting out of paying taxes on fully leased up luxury apartments and such. Yeah typical homeowner is the overburdened tax payer. Farmers get Green Belt exemption.
Hmmm exemption and farmer are not terms that typically appear together in a California sentence. There is a provision called Williamson Act that is intended to preserve agriculture. (boy is it long and complicated) But even that is under attack. Did your eNettie’s employ the “dark store” theory?

Oh yes. Lowes and Home Depot in Nashville would use old abandoned KMarts in Memphis as comps. Fun. I think Dark Store Theory got killed finally.

Yes the awkwardness with appraisal app in the field is also my experience. I try to fill out as much of the URAR form as I can before the inspection. but that means that I cannot sync any app entered inspection data back into that subjects appraisal report, lest I override my previous work. (There maybe a work around that I am too dense to discover). I guess I am searching for that magic unified theory of report writing and site inspection. Now where did I leave that string?
I tested Alamode's software just now.

It seems to work just well. I know when it first came out, it had problems if you started the report in the office.

I just started a report in the office from a template, filled out the first page of the URAR (excluding the improvements section) put in some maps, etc. Then uploaded to the cloud. From the cloud I took some pics, did the sketch, filled out the improvement section, etc. Downloaded the file back to the cloud and then opened it up on the desktop. Everything transferred fine.

I am typically too lazy to do it this way, but since things are slow, I might start.

While I have been using a Disto for over 20 years, I'm still a pen to paper guy in the field. Don't use a clipboard, I have my inspection form printed on a file folder. If I can find one, I use the county assessor's exterior foot print that I draw on the folder prior to inspection. Always worried if I went totally digital in the field I'd erase everything by accident. This should come in handy tomorrow.
FWIW, I have never lost a file in 12 years of using a tablet. I hit the save button after every part of the inspection. When I first started, I had your same fears. I would just hotspot my phone and upload the report the cloud before I left the home.

Now, I have two saved reports.

I just remember the Alamode tablet advertisement with the lady in the leather skirt and heels, exactly what I'll wear to measure my "Barndominium", NOT. I don't fill out anything in the field, just take photos and measure. I don't sync it, I use it like a USB and pick what photos I want instead of transferring it all like they designed it for.

Hit the FUNC button.
Hit the button to the left of the red round button "0n/DIST"
Then use the up, down, left, right buttons to toggle to the very button that looks like a hand. When highlighted with a red square, hit the round on/DIST button to turn it off.

From that same screen you can manage the level, brightness, blue tooth, etc.

May have to click to expand:

I just wanted to say thank you again, I hated using the D810 because of the touch screen, so have been mainly using my old D5. I used the D810 on all my appraisal inspections today and it was flawless. Your post made my day!!!

I just use my phone. I get a phone with a big screen for this purpose. I'm not lugging around an extra device when the one I always have on me does everything I need. I use the bosch laser linked in this topic. It's good.

Yeah, try that here in Texas. Try to get the real sketch #1 out of the assessor sketch #2. Total for mobile is so easy a cave man can do it.

Some of the assessor's sketches in the smaller communities that I serve are exactly that bad. You gotta love those "flying wing homes" with the 54° angles. Would've been amusing to have heard your verbiage while you were drawing that ridiculous angle in the garage. Apex makes it a lot easier to draw something like that as well. Once you get the initial angle figured out most of the offsets are 90° from it and it's a wondrous thing to see it close properly with your final measurement. Much easier than sketching it on graph paper.
