Cancer Haircut?

I haven't posted on the Forum in a while & here's partially why: After an aortic valve replacement on Election Day in 2020 (open heart surgery), wife of 27 years ghosting me & my son in Spring 2023 taking just about all the cash & stocks (haven't talked to her since) and another open heart surgery replacement of the same valve that went bad again in fall of 2023, I was diagnosed (Yes, lucky me I now have cancer!) with non-small cell lung, right lobe brain, adrenal gland, (they said something about bone, but I actually just quit listening at that point trying to process everything) and some extra assorted growth scattered throughout me, about three weeks ago. I've had two radiation treatments so far for my brain cancer (at least three more days of zapping to go), and then about a week of chemotheraphy that will address the lung cancer. Thinking about getting a short haircut due to radiation and chemo too; I don't really want to have my hair fall out in the shower, although there isn't much naturally left. I'm honestly going to give up on my Minoxidil treatments, because why??? Unless the transition to hair regrowth benefits from it. Does anyone know? By the way, the legendary Wayne McKerly has been nothing short of kind and understanding of my tech knowledge (he hosts my website) and I want to express my gratitude for his efforts to promote the profession in an honest ethical way. He does more for us than any lender/CEO/AMC. Please support his business and efforts. Just thought that needed to be said.

David, I am so sorry to hear about your illness. I will be praying for you for a complete recovery and for your son also in these difficult times. God has supreme healing powers and I ask him to give you healing and peace. Thank you for your kind words.

Sorry to hear about your illness and I hope you beat the cancer. The only thing I can contribute is my personal experience. Had a golf ball size tumor on my neck that had started to infiltrate my voice box. 33 radiation treatments over a six week period and 6 weekly chemo treatments to make sure no cancer cells were wandering about my body, The radiation did slow hair growth on my upper lip and below. Didn't appear that the chemo caused any hair loss. But that can all depend somewhat on the individual. I didn't have any of the bad reactions to either. Except the radiation burned my throat so badly that I had to have a feeding tube. The treatment technology has come a long way and I am 5 years cancer free. Hope you get the same outcome

I'm sorry for your troubles and I hope you find your way through with however things turn out.

As for the hair, I don't think you should sweat it. Just buzz it. Nobody even notices when a guy goes buzzed or bald. I was starting to noticeably thin at the temples a year back so I just buzzed it and started referring to it as my "prison cut". I've been doing the same with my stubble for the last 15+ years - I never shave, I just buzz it. I call that the "Full Iranian"

Sounds like when it rains, it pours. You've had bad luck upon bad luck. My prayers for you.

I'm sorry to hear of your situation. I can't imagine going through what you have gone through.
I believe we have a reason to be on earth and you have the strength and determination to get through this.
Your posting has inspired us to appreciate life and the silly disagreements in AF are trifling.
We in AF hate to see our fellow brother appraiser in pain.

I hope this song from Neil Diamond about facing ups and downs will bring some comfort.

Radiation has started burning my throat too.

Sorry for being such a bummer, but your posts and concern are truly helpful. I really don't feel bad yet except for the tongue and throat, but chemo starts Thursday I think. Dublin had 33 radiation treatments? Holy cow I gotta get ready!

Hey David! Good to see you on here again. Sorry for the travails, but RE the hair - shave your head, man. It's an extremely liberating experience. I've since grown mine back out, but I really enjoyed being bald.
