Businesses Moving from Illinois

Canada is stunned that Amazon closed all their Quebec warehouses. Was labor unions the cause?

Its hilarious that several of the talking heads in the video that are so offended about this move also say, in the same breath, that this action by Amazon is not a surprise. Duh? If they thought ahead of time that unionizing might cause Amazon to relocate, maybe they should have put a bit more thought into it. Bezos called their bluff and did exactly what the union bosses and politicians were expecting. Unions are dinosaurs and should be extinct. They're like a T-rex that thinks he can do anything he wants until someone with an RPG blasts his azz into oblivion.

I'm thinking that most of the 1,700 employees that just lost their jobs would like a do-over on that union vote.

Star Bucks
Starbucks closes 200 stores in Canada.
Star Buck's is a luxury most can't afford anymore and they were in a decline for quite a while in some areas. Also many are located in high rent areas and they won't turn a net profit.

Finally when you elevate coffee pourers into Baristas you no longer have lower wages and in my area it's a $20 to $25 per hour wage. It's a business model that only works until the economy cools or it's no better than McDonalds Coffee.

I used to go to Starbucks a lot before Covid. I was a loyal customer. Since then they had new CEO which did terrible job and I didn't like their business model and I stopped going.
I found another place which I still go to get my morning coffee. Business can't take their customers for granted.

That reminds me of the other day when I was taking the wife to a doctors appt. Drove by a Starbucks and they were outside in freezing weather picketing. My first thought was "idiot suckers".

There use to be 2 SBUX in town to get coffee. Now there's 1 and about 7-8 other mom/pop or other franchise coffee shops.

I don't know how they do it. They're buying expensive out lots for $500K to $1M and then putting a small drive-thru on it. Probably total of $1.5 - $2M to sell coffee and other minor food items. But I suppose when you sell a cup of coffee/coffee clones for $5-$10, there's quite a bit of profit.
