Weird Windows 11 PC Behavior

I was at my desk yesterday evening and I shut my PC down for the night. After putting some papers in my file cabinet I started to walk out the room and damn if the PC doesn't turn itself back on and boots up. I repeated the shutdown procedure thinking I must have merely rebooted, and five minutes later, she turns herself back on again. I haven't had a chance to figure out what's going on, but it was definately a little creepy.

Sounds like you've been back to the dispensary to me. You might try these though…

• Disable Automatic Restart on Failure
  If Windows encounters a hidden error during shutdown, it may restart.
  1. Right-click the Start button and select System.
  2. Click Advanced system settings.
  3. Under the "Startup and Recovery" section, click Settings.
  4. Uncheck Automatically restart under System failure.
  5. Click OK.
• Update or Reinstall Drivers
  Outdated drivers, particularly for the network adapter or chipset, can cause this issue.
  1. Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
  2. Expand Network adapters, right-click your network controller, and select Properties.
  3. Go to the Power Management tab and uncheck "Allow this device to wake the computer".
• Run System File Checker
  Run the following command in Command Prompt (as Administrator) to repair corrupted system files:
  sfc /scannow.
• Update BIOS
  Check your PC manufacturer's support site (e.g., ASUS, Dell) for BIOS updates, as outdated firmware can interfere with power management.

If the issue persists, try running powercfg -restoredefaultschemes in Command Prompt to reset power settings to their defaults.

I've timed the phenomenon. It will reboot approximately 5 minutes after shutdown. It's like a ghost in the machine.

Sounds like the Trump donor virus. You need to reformat and start over.

Sounds like Microsoft updates to me. Uncheck "update automatically when updates are available".
