Collection of unpaid invoices

Just wondering if anyone here has had to hire a collection company to help collect from companies that refuse to pay what they owe. Is there anyone you can recommend using?

Never used a collection agency.

I threatened the debtor that I would let the borrower and/or lender know I was not paid, and that usually resulted in a payment.

I finally hired a collection agency on a couple of old invoices simply so I could quit thinking about them. It was decades ago though, can't remember the name and I doubt they're still in business. I was getting inordinately upset and the peace of mind gained by turning that problem over to somebody else was worth it. I got paid for one and I think the other one had gone out of business.

I hear that going to the place of business and sitting in their waiting room works after you have the pizza delivered.

I did collections once....they don't do anything, just hope the company will pay and they can take half.

Bill early and often. Get on the phone and find out when your going to get paid.

I have five accounts that I will be filing small claims court paperwork on next week. The thing is three are attorneys, one is a successful restaurant and the other is a guy I have know for 20+ years. All have received multiple invoices. The nice thing is I have emails from each of the attorneys saying they would guarantee payment, so it is up to them to collect from their client.

Those attorneys wouldn't want to go in front of a judge or magistrate and try to defend their failure to pay.

Here in “modern times” (aka, post CFPD) , I have not had a problem with lenders not paying. The only good it has done is make the lenders scared of not paying.

Now, that has not meant I have had issues. First thing I do is check my accounts payable, and check it twice and three times ( some times it is me).

Once I am l positive it is not me, I contact them directly. They check their files…they do! They don’t want to have us send out “bad vibes” on them. Most of the times they come back and say, “whoops! Sorry. Will get that out to you.” Once a client came back and say se sent a check and find I didn’t cash it (lost in the mail) and sent me another one.

Point is, I feel they want to resolve any payment issues.

I made the rule years ago no one gets the report unless the check is handed to me at the site (or in modern times VENO’d). I have eaten a few in the past. But not many. And that was because I didn’t demand payment up front. Since I demanded payment up front, no problems. Lenders are really good. AMC’s … some take forever. I have one right now that is over 30 days. But as I remember this particular one tends to be a bit late all the time.

So make it a rule….no money in hand….no report. Does’t matter who the client is. It will make your life easier. And if they don’t agree to that…walk.

I just tell them I don’t cash the check until I am done. BUT I ALWAYS DO SO THE DAY I SEND THE REPORT. With the ability to deposit electronically it makes it easy.

And I did once hire a collection company. I think I got about 50 cents on the dollar. That was years ago. Collect up front:)
