Abbreviation For Ceiling Cable Heat And Other Info

Shawn,
There is not, to my knowledge, any published list of customary abbreviations--except here on the Forum. So you can use whatever abbreviation or terminology you find convenient and descriptive. You should explain abbreviations in the comment addendum anyway. I had a MB call yesterday wanting to know what "DW" meant for wall finish. Most of my clients recognize this as "DryWall" (Sheetrock® is a brand name, I think.) I hadn't explained it in the Comments, and had to deal with a callback because of it.

"The rocket scientist that designed these systems" was probably an engineer with some electric utility. Electric radiant ceiling heat has been very common in areas traditionally having cheap electricity - the Tennessee Valley comes to mind as an example. This type heat became less common as central cooling became more common. "Ceil" heat had some foibles - like cold feet under a table - but was actually pretty popular with people who didn't like dust being blown around.

I agree with everyone that it is a type of radiant heat. The concept of radiant heat is that it heats OBJECTS, not the air. So, it doesn't matter if it is in the floor or the ceiling. However, I have never come across anyone who has this type of system that likes it.

Next time try Dwall (they won't ask) :leeann2:

Agree with all the posters above that ceiling radiant is not the best for most folks who have to live with it. Thos with floor radiant seem to be a lot happier.

I also would use Radiant as my descriptive and then expand in comments where it is located ceiling, and observed effect on value.

What usually happens is folks buy before they try and regret the location later.

Thanks again guys for all help on this! I went with radiant and the appraisal was accepted (so far) with no complaints. hehe Now I am moving on to another appraisal that I have to give a cost to cure. I am sure I will be screaming for help over the weekend as I take my last appraisal class.

Thanks one more time,
Shawn
