I am looking into buying Adobe Acrobat for my computer at home so that I can send my files out from home rather than having to go into the office. I can get the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 standard at $299. The Adobe Acrobat 6.0 professional is $449. Do any of you think there is any reason to buy the professional ? Also, when I get this do you think it is a good idea to put it on my laptop, where I do all of my appraisal work or should I put it on my Gateway desktop? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I am running 6.0 Pro on an IBM T-22 laptop ... Pro has several features that Std does not have .... higher compression ratios, better graphics assimilation, better editing capabilities and several other features that you may or may not use. If all you are doing it mailing reports, except for the higher compression, Std will likely do all that you want it to.

You may want to try Amazon.com and other sources for the program. The suggested retail prices of the software is seldom realistic and can almost always be beat.

For example, when Acrobat Pro version 6.0 came out, Amazon had the update for $99. I bought it and it is the best version of Acrobat yet. I think the price went up a little but they always seem to have good competitive prices anyway.

If there is not too much difference in price, I would go for the pro version.

If all you are looking for is to email reports out. Standard will work just fine. That is what I use. Check around for prices first though. I did not spend nearly $299 for my version.

Ken - what software are you using? Are your working for another appraiser? Do you need to do this to send it to a mentor/supervisor/trainer or to send it out to clients?

If you're on WinTotal and work for a mentor then you don't need to worry because you can send ti direct through the proj200 address. Other software may require other approaches. If you're self-employeed and own the software then you could work out an agreement with your vendor for a supplemental install.

FYI & FWIW - Good luck :peace:

There is a free document "flattener" that will provide some security for the Cute files ..... Do a search on the forum ... I posted the link to the Flattener some time ago ......:)

I have 5.0 distiller and Wintotal with Apex on the office computer which I never use but I have just to keep up with what is going on. I am looking at a new laptop and want to move those programs onto the laptop. Anybody know how to do it? Now I have one computer at home and one at the office and it is a hassel keeping up with various data base files.

Austin - Alamode has a "counter" restriction on the Apex, unless you bought it direct from Randy's company. You'll need to notify them that you are cancelling the desk top computer account, intsall the software on the new laptop and then do an update and tell Apex to register with alamode - if you're like me and don't have the weekend/24 hours account (some people have way too much $$) then I'd suggest you wait till tomorrow. You could send your support email today and they'll put you in que for tomorrow morning.

That's the best I know - they're good and can find stuff that we really screw up. My highest complements to many of them and phheeeewwwwwww to some of them. Overall, some of the best techs.

:peace:

PS - go ahead and install and do the updates now while it's the weekend.
