How is the economy in Gaston County, in particular the real estate economy? Foreclosures are still rising. #1, I LOVE Gastonia and Gaston County. Yep, I have lived other places and find this area suits me just fine. If I have a choice of being truthful or telling only "happy" news that makes people feel good.....I will always tell the truth. We have had plenty of bad news in the real estate field since 2006. Here is the truth you rarely hear. The truth shall set you free.

My friend Martin Eudy keeps records of real estate statistics for more categories than you could imagine. Today, I am speaking on foreclosures. I have Martin's statistics since 2001 for Gaston County foreclosures.

2001 321
2002 480
2003 719
2004 767
2005 704
2006 853
2007 836
2008 912
2009 769
2010 990
2011 705
2012 814
2013 940 ** Jan-Oct 784 + 78* Nov & +78* Dec (*estimates)

---------------
9,026 Gaston County foreclosures 2001-2013

2013 will rank as the second or third highest foreclosure year out of the last 12 years.

Buying & selling real estate is SERIOUS BUSINESS. When you become involved with a "real estate professional" make sure you are both on the same page and both being completely honest about what the goal is and how to achieve that goal.

It is all local. Which is why I've never found the national surveys... or even regional surveys to be of any relevance. County data...a little more applicable. Neighborhood is better. The market segment is best. Yeah, you do have to develop those numbers yourself.
