Some, maybe. But the boomers basically had it made economically precisely because the US was the only industrial power untouched by WW2, passing the torch of the Pound to the Dollar as the world's reserve currency and all the benefits that combo afforded. All boomers had to do for well paid gainful employment was to show up for work and not be too drunk. Times have changed and the world has flattened.

I am technically a "Boomer" by a couple of years. By the time of my early 50s, due to kids/private schools/life, my net worth was exactly $0.

*THEN* 10 years of working an appraisal system with help (and a financial-brain wife who was missing the prior half century), I am now ... doing MUCH better thank you ... and inheritance makes up only about ... wait for it ... 11% of that total. (One apartment inherited free and clear, then sold and the $$$ invested). Our circumstances are most definitely *NOT* due to your scenario above!

Moral of the story: It CAN still be done in the good old US of A - with the right work ethic, the right system, and a little luck (the residue of design, dontcha know? )

It won't run afoul if it is codified in the regulations.

My thinking is that its a good chance that much of the tip income is not reported in the first place so this part of the big bill is for sound-bite purposes and the loss in income to the Treasury will be minimal.

Who the hell tips at McDonalds? What a clown show.

Went to Subway last week and the cashier was cracking jokes with everyone that came in. When it came time to pay, he made sure to let me know about the tip button and anyone that didn't tip got some attitude after . I paid almost $13 for a six-inch sub, chips, and drink. Subway was the last holdout on exorbitant prices, but hard to think about giving a tip to begin with, much less after paying double for the same meal that we would get for 50% less a couple of years ago.
