I am trying to decide if I should get it done this year or wait. If anyone has had one I would love to get some feed back as to how low rehab was and what type of movement and flexibility you had with a complete shoulder replacement

I have not but two guys on my golf league have. Both had it done in October and were playing again in February the next year. Both were the 'reverse' replacement. One guy, 60 ish, had no problems and was shooting par or better, his usual score in no time. Other guy, 72, playing again and had no problems with surgery or rehab, shooting his normal handicap. He couldn't raise his arm above horizontal before, now no range of motion limitations. He said that it gets kinda sore after playing golf 2-3 days in a row, but h&ll, so does mine and its OEM. Both are happy with the outcome.

Bottom line, I think it comes down to the ortho surgeon. There's a very good one at a local hospital.

If they had a complete replacement that is very good info, especially the range of motion

Wife did 5 years ago -She would not do it again, and can no longer drive or use it and the pain is back. Personally I would only do it when it becomes so bad you can't take it anymore but like Forrest Gump said life is like a box of chocolates and you never know. Each person is different just like with hip and knees some work-great and others not so much.

Its like a lot of different surgeries, the results very all over the board. The one orthopedist I was said the only option was a full replacement but wait until the pain is go bad that I could not take it anymore. I have a decent amount of pain but the range of motion is very limited. I am getting a second opinion next month. My problem with the Orthopedic Dr's is that they base it all on pain which is not the only factor. I had a knee replaced this year and the results exceeded by expectations even though my wife had both hers replaced last year so I had a pretty good idea what the rehab and end results were.

I have a buddy that's an ortho doc, replaces knees/hips. Success depends so much on the rehab.

On the first patient consultation he tells them that they have to do EXACTLY what he tells them for rehab. Not one rep more or less. His patient results are excellent.

I agree with that 100%. The physical therapist for my knee told me they get a lot of seniors who do no follow the home instruction to t ice, stretch, exercise the knee as per the Dr and Physical Therapist's instructions. The result is the surgeon needs to put them back in the operating room, put them under and then physically move the joint to break up the scar tissue, End result is that the patient is back at square one.

A friend's wife needed both knees replaced. She was on her feet all day working in a Target warehouse for over 30 years. She is a good person but not what you might call 'tough', mentally or physically.

Insurance company talked her into getting them both replaced at the same time; she'd save a few bucks on the deductible, they said. Turned out to be a huge mistake.

After surgery the PT hurt so she didn't do it as directed. She's now on disability; can barely walk, even after the second surgery to 'break' them free. Never did the PT due to the "pain" and will be hobbling around for the rest of her life. She's actually the only 'failure' out of about a dozen people that I know with new knees.

My wife had both her knees replaced last year, 3 months between replacements. The Dr. told her they never due both at one time unless the person is an elite athlete. You need on good knee to get up and down.

I should have done my knee years ago
