Being new, I would search the Forum "Good, Bad, Ugly"
Many of the "ugly" are the ones that will definitely take on "newbies" (no offense)
They also will be the ones (many times) to not care about you or your report(s) but care more about your fee(s) and Turn times (aka, low(er) fee and quick(er) turn times)
you'll be busting your hump for minimal fees
FWIW, I worked at an AMC (before being an appraiser) for nearly 5 yrs)
I also did a "volume guarantee" for a few years with an AMC (ACT Appraisal) once I became certified
So I can speak from experience on both fronts (AMC and as an Appraiser)
All the best and Welcome to the Forum
Side note: the "search" function on here can be very helpful
Go to your local recorders office, online if possible. Search mortgages one by one, noting the lender. This shows you who is actually doing loans in your area, both 1sts and 2nds. Contact the lenders and see if they order direct or go thru an AMC. I have never had a lender not want to tell how to get onto their panel.
Is this time consuming? Yes. But if you have no work, I assume you have time.
When I started, I did this for each county I covered, all in person. Got a good bit of work fairly quickly, mostly by going into the branches and talking face to face with lenders/branch managers. Most were willing to put in a good word for me with their appraisal coordinators. Must have been my rugged good looks. Well, maybe it was the donuts.
Check your appraisal board. Many states require an AMC to be registered in order to do business and they will provided a list of active members. Do your research on any potentials here or through google.
