I'm not big on sending pdf files....lots of scanning....
breaks my routine...its like I have to prepare two
reports. I usually just tell clients, nope don't do
email on full reports.

I went to a USPAP course and the instructor was saying
he drops his report into his expensive scanner and
it produces a report he can email (commercial narrative).

So I'm thinking, I could probably handle dropping
a report into a feeder and getting a pdf file as an
output.

What are the better systems out there to do this?

thanks

Just purchased an HP multi-function laser Printer - Copier - Scanner - Fax. I now just put the paper on the copier (or copier feed on top) push the scan button and like magic, it's in my computer and ready to go into the report.

Love it!

MR. Reed,

What software are you using?

We use ACI and converting to PDF and sending e-mail or AppraisalPort is only about 3 clicks, 100 times faster than scanning. (on 20 page report)

Alamode is equal(they say)

I agree. I just do everything in Dayone and print the report to Adobe and email it. I am confused as to what you have to scan for PDF that wouldn't scan for a typical report? Unless you are still doing manual maps and addendum's outside your software. I now import everything into the DayOne so I can print a complete report at one time.

But to answer you question I use an old HP scanner and it has a copier type software that outputs to a printer. So yes, I could scan and print to Adobe and have a PDF file. However it is much more work than just printing an appraisal from my Appraisal software to Adobe.

Elliot,

Not sure I understand. If you have Adobe Acrobat you can convert any file to PDF. Instead of sending it to the printer, just send it to the adobe printer. I use it when sending letters and additional addendums. I only use my scanner to input site plans or blue prints.

If you have Adobe Acrobat you can convert any file to PDF. Instead of sending it to the printer, just send it to the adobe printer.

Some web pages get clipped along the right side for me. Maybe I just need to RTFM to find a setting. :?
Either way, I love this program, saves a ton of paper. :D

Like TC, I can EDI anything; I even scan in the deeds, plats, etc. Keeps the page numbers in order.

I can scan stuff, and I have Adobe's Distiller,
I was thinking there is a self-feed, scanner
that can convert to pdf, one button.

I find the scan once, copy, paste thing
time consumming (It takes a couple of
minutes, when I can make three copies a
whole report in a couple of minutes).

I'm looking for the next level of efficiency.

You can scan directly into Acrobat, although the file size is then pretty large (about 2X distiller) so if you are working from paper reports you can open Acrobat and import a page at a time, the nice thing is the program will prompt for the next page (IE 'next page' or 'done') I use a flatbed, and I have done this to add pages to a file after it's been printed (did it today to add a lender's required paperwork to my approval package to email them) come tho think of it, you can do the same thing with Office XP (MS Office Scanning.. believe) and it does the same prompt until you decide you're done...

There are scanners that will do exactly what you want. I can't remember what the names of them are but they work like magic. I went to the hospital for some tests recently and they took my ID and all my paper work and fed it into a scanner on her desk just like you would a fax. The thing was a little wider than the paper and looked like a fat pencil. Most places like Best Buy's, Staples etc have the product. I am getting one so I can scan legal documents and not have to fight a flat bed scanner.
