Hello all,

I have a quick question, if you will:

We have a good number of Apex Medina 4.3 workstations and we have multiple clients that require different configurations in Apex. Is there a way to import/export the configuration settings? We'd like to have a custom config file, for each client, that we could import; or at least paste into the Apex Medina programs file folder each time we have to work with a client again.

I looked through the files in the Apex folder, win7 user folders, the registry, etc, but haven't found anything that seems helpful.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks for your time,
JakeRoul

JR,

Sorry for the delay in replying - been out of the office. I will look into this for you and let you know what I find out ASAP... In the interim, if you can let me know just what sort of items you'd want to be able to change on a per user or per client basis, it will help in case I need to get some sort of external "app" written for you. Also, please let me know which forms program(s) you are using, whether integrated or not in case it affects that end, as well.

Randall,

Honestly I didn't realize this was an official Apex forum; I just found it while searching for a solution. I may need to speak to my superiors before having any type app created.

Basically I'd like to have the ability to import/export the complete configuration window's settings; I was hoping it was already a feature. Or maybe some file in the window's user folder i could copy between the machines.

As far as what i'd need to export/import, I want to be able to save the settings from any of these tabs in the configuration:

I don't know exactly which options as they vary from client to client. They each seem to prefer to have the sketches drawn and displayed differently.

Thanks

JR,

No worries - this is not an official forum. I just like to monitor it to help users where I can... And don't worry about an app thing - I was just thinking out loud. If I have to create something, it would be something to help out additional users, too. Feedback I get on these forums helps me make the program better for all... :-) *

So, the items are (most) of those in the Configuration tabs? I was asking because SOME items, like line style, etc. are controlled in the DAT file used by the [F4] Define Area dialog... Anyway, in the more current versions (like your v4.3.x) most of the items in the Configuration dialog tabs are controlled by the XML file in \My Documents\Apex Software - the actual name of the XML file may vary depending on your "version" (which industry) but you should be able to spot it immediately.

Hope this helps!

* Your question prompted me to think about adding an "Import > Config File" for a temporary setting override. This would be just a simple cheesy way to do most of what I think you are asking about. Later, I'd want to make it more full featured as a sort of "Import Profile" or something - to include the germane items in the [F4] DAT file, allowing saving to a specific package location, etc. We have the code open right now making some "under the hood" changes and some custom items for other (non-appraiser) industries, so maybe I can get this into the v4.6 update due soon... :-) As a registered v4.x user, this update will be free to your users.
