I thought I had a good deal with Comcast Cable. I started having problems because of the stricter policies on WiFI access that Apple introduced with its iOS 26.1 upgrade. For me and my 10+ year old Unifi UDM Pro router, it was becoming too much.

Grok said to get a new Unifi UDR7 router (only $270 at Central Computers). I did. But then I struggled with the dumb and dumber tech support at Comcast to get their modem working with my router - to no avail. (To be sure at one time I got hold of ONE guy who knew what he was doing.). Monday, the tech support gal from Mexico didn't know what DHCP was. Last Straw!! So I asked ChatGPT which were the best Internet Providers at the moment. It said Google Fiber Optic and AT&T Fiber Optic. We don't have Google Fiber, so that left AT&T.

AT&T prices were unbelievable: 2 GB download and upload $100/month with w/veterans' and senior discounts. It costs a little more than Comcast. But they offered to pay $1100 for my two-month-old iPhone 16 Max Pro so I could upgrade to an iPhone 17 Max Pro. That is about break-even because there was another $150 credit on top of everything.

So, look around. Most of you can probably get by on far less than 2,000 Mbps; in fact, I can only use fast downloads when I am downloading a ton of MLS data. 300 Mbps should be adequate for most; a 4K TV only takes 40 Mbps.

So, now we do have 2G throughout the house, with measured download speeds of about 2.3G and 1.9G up. That supports several large screen TVs, seven computers plus relatives when they come to stay for a couple of weeks, plus my downloads. Plus 5 video cameras.

That is so fantastic.

AT&T BGW 620 Modem/Router 10Gb Port ---- 2.4 Gbps ---->. Unify URD7 Router 10 Gb Port -----> 2.4 Gbps -----> 10Gb Unify Switch ----> Mac Studio M2 Ultra 10G port

The 620 has 4 ports (1 x 10G, 3x 2.5G) to two other AT&T Extenders at 2.5Gbps for the rest of the house, including my wife's office and downstairs areas for boarders and guests.

We have a single AT&T WiFi that runs throughout the house. Via my Unify UDR7 router, I have my own WiFi. And the ports keep my office isolated, but I add further isolation and security layers. And Unifi has its own security software that it is automatically updated all the time.
