I read that Grisoft is ending the free version of its' AVG antivirus software. Is this true? Are there any other good, free antivirus programs out there?

Considering the price they are asking and that AVG-covered machines seem to be the only ones I have that NEVER have issues with, I'd say its worth it. There are others that have free versions, but I wouldn't point you to them simply because they aren't worth the price!

AVG is great (but the version with firewall is useless), and Kerio firewall is the best firewall I've seen so far. Kerio used to be a product by the friend of the Grisoft developers, but he has sold the product to some other company.

Pay the price. It's good and you've gotten to enjoy it, so show your support. Every computer I have that runs Symantec, McAfee, Microsoft OneCare, Panda, and CA have nothing but problems. I only have them on thise machines so I can see if they are the cause of problems with my programs (the ones I write), but if I didn't need this ability, I'd run AVG on everything at TWICE the price.

Uh oh, I hope you guys figure it out soon. I've been ignoring the warning...:D :D

I uninstalled the old version and installed the new 7.5 and it's working fine.

Janet, what warning?

Everytime I restart, Mike, I get a warning that the free AVG is coming to an end...

Of course that warning is on your computer you have for personal use and not your business machine since the license for free use does not apply for businesses.

I only run the software when I'm using the computer for personal uses. When I do appraisal work, I disable it.

Really.

No, really

It's not even my computer. Truthfully, I really don't know whose it is...someone left it here and I only use it to play plug it in and unplug it when I don't have any work to do on my real computer. Like today for example.

How would the AV program know you're using it for business?

I still say BUY IT. Companies like this put a lot of hard work into what they do and its nice if you can show your support by supporting the company. If you like what they provide, show your support.

If you don't, then why use it?

Maybe we should provide appraisal services for free and give people the option of paying us, maybe with a little incentive for a "pro" upgrade.

Appraisal Free: a full USPAP-compliant appraisal deliveded in one week of completion, and Appraisal Pro Version, same but delivered within an hour of completion of the report at a nominal fee. Same thing.
