Why is there no uproar in the appraisal industry about appraisers having to provide their most personal information for background checks in the name of "protecting the client (Lender)" ? Who is protecting ME. At the end of the day I'm the one with the huge task and expense of recovering my identity if it is stolen. I have provided appraisals to a company for a number of years. Now they are requiring all appraisers to submit to a background check. Another Company would like to put me on their list of appraisers. They also want a background check. So far I have refused. I do not have a problem with the background check. I have a problem with providing my personal information to every tom, dick and harry just so I can do a job I've been doing for over 15 years. The very information we are required to supply is the same information we are advised never to share. I would not be adverse to having a background check on file with the State Board. ONE company, ONE background check. Wondering how others have handled this.

About 18 months old news.

Search the forum for many threads on this topic.

The ASC is writing rules for states to run background checks. The States will run them. Everyone else is nickel and diming you without cause or reason, and trying to make out that its a requirement, when it's only a requirement for anyone that owns 10% or more of an AMC to be background checked by each state, and each lender is supposed to make sure it's done.

Doesn't manditory background checks by the State Appraisal Commissions for new appraisers go into effect in 2015 or 2016?

Send them photos of your most recent colonoscopy.

You asking me?
Remember the IVPI was supposed to happen in 6 months. 3 years letter we got a "report an appraiser for USPAP violation website."

Government deadlines are just suggestions in my experience.

Is Gitmo still up and running?

Same here. It is not expensive to get the BG. But it is a PITA. I will be revising my fee schedule with them.
If any of their contractors in the same boat don't, well they are not too bright.Expenses go up, fees must at least follow.
I don't think they will or can argue, unless I go nuts. Now, where do I set the numbers?

Marion, do you know if it the ASC that first suggested background checks on appraisers or did it come down the line from elsewhere.
