Best AMC's?

I know that "Best AMC" may be considered an oxymoron by some and that many appraisers have a less than favorable view of most AMC's, but I am trying to determine what companies are best to partner with for an appraiser in Western North Carolina. I am currently taking my trainee courses and have started an appraisal company with a longtime friend who has been certified since 2005.

Since I cannot do much work related to the actual appraisal report at this time I have focused on trying to streamline some of the administrative aspects of the business and have looked to expand the number of AMC panel's he is approved on. The current roster from the NC Appraisal Board has over 12 pages of approved AMC's and I would prefer not to try and target each one.

My question is; what companies seem to do the most business in WNC (primarily Buncombe and Henderson counties) and which are not notorious for dragging payment beyond 30 days? Any insight regarding AMC's looking to add appraisers or other tips would be GREATLT appreciated.
 
Take a look of the transactions for the preceding year to see which lenders are active in your market. Once you know the main lenders, next step is to determine who orders the appraisals.
 
As an appraiser, you can't "partner" with an AMC.

AMCs are agents of lenders. You are either an Independent fee appraiser (not an agent of the lender), or you are an employee (agent of the lender).

Other than dead. The best AMCs, pay the best for your area, have knowledgeable people you can speak with on the phone, do not try to over power you with stupid stips to prove their "needed" existence in the process, and those that give you sufficient time to complete each job. As far as rating them for you, that's not a good idea for appraisers who do not serve the same markets you do.
 
NC requires AMC to pay in 30 days so join several panels and see how THEY do on a short leash. If I needed to grow my list I would actively pursue local banks, credit unions and network with real estate professionals. Thats where your energy is best spent. No AMC is all good and the "better" ones will eventually show their colors.
 
Be sure you know about this when you and a supervisor become partners.

57A 0407(f) Supervising appraisers shall not be employed by a trainee or by a company, firm, or partnership in which the trainee has a controlling interest.

If your firm is going to contact any lender or AMC...you should do so with a letter signed by the certified appraiser..

Understand that very few if any lender or AMC clients want to see a trainee's signature on an appraisal and probably will not allow.
