CA Population Projections (by county)

17% decline in population for LA is not a little bit.

DC population is 5% lower than 2019. First time declining since the 1960-2000 decline.

LA is tired, crammed up, frenetic, freeway choked, mostly older bldgs, with little parking in older areas as garages are converted to living space and residents double park in the street to the frustration of many. Ppl wanting better quality of life with larger homes, adequate garages, room even for visitors to park are opting for Riverside or San Bernardino Counties which are somewhat commutable, and with new industrial and commercial areas being developed, finally providing more local jobs, commute to LA is unnecessary for most. Hence, it's logical for LA to lose population.

Riverside County is commutable ? I hope you are kidding :) LMAO

I've known many people commuting from Riverside, Corona, even HEMET!! Zowie! that (91) will steal your life. 2 hours in, 2 hours out of LA during traffic time between 4:30 AM-9:00 and again 1:30-6:30 PM. I can't imagine willingly spending hours of my life every day on that commute. Even the FasTrack only shaves about 20-30 minutes off each way, and at a hefty price. SoCAL: It's all about the traffic all the time.

I had to say something and this sure seems like the appropriate Forum:

Yesterday's assignment was in the newer Terramor PUD [about 1300 homes] 11 miles south of downtown Corona, on Interstate Highway 15, in the unincorporated Temescal Valley area of Riverside County, CA.

My 15-mile drive from Riverside (City) took about 75 minutes, mid-morning on a week-day.

Upon arriving at the SFR, trying to calm myself down, I asked the seller why he was moving. He says he absolutely loves his new house, and he loves the community....but he can't go anywhere because the freeway traffic is so terrible.

These are 1-story, 1700 sf homes with [only] 2-bedrooms on 4k - 6k sf lots re-selling 1 - 3 year old for mid-$700K's, with $300+ HOA fees, a tank or two of gas away from the closest gallon of milk.

A SOCIETY OF PEOPLE CANNOT OR SHOULD-NOT LIVE THIS WAY.

IMO LA traffic is worse, traffic is as bad or worse, congestion typically worse, housing stock tends to be older...
So we make the choice to live in our houses, and if we commute we L-O-V-E the weekends with more flexible traffic patterns.
But jobs may require too many commute hours. And there's many worse places to live for sure.

When I was driving through some cities in LA, the tract homes looked easy to measure and appraise.
The valleys are easy to me in that I don't have to worry about views.
Driving on the carpool lanes was a blessing in getting around. Here in Bay Area, the heavy traffic carpool lane and Bay Bridge require 3 people and those lanes are still slow.

At night I would use driving apps to see time in getting my destination places to visit.
But during the day, the traffic changed my advanced planning in that the time required increased sometimes double the time which required me to speed drive.
The driving app changed my driving route sometimes to streets to avoid the freeway traffic.
I thought LA is a vast oyster to appraise but with traffic issues, I hate to spend most of my time driving.
