Ive been an appraiser for two years now. Ive completed 2000 hours of experince and 200 hours of required appraisal classes. What im lacking to become certified in the state of Texas is 21 semester college hours in basic studies. Does anyone have any online college suggestions? or are there any schools geared toward college classes for appraisers? Any help would be appreacited.

Check out your local community college. Basic college courses can be obtained conveniently and inexpensively. I know that the community college in my county offers online courses, perhaps the community colleges near you do also.

Hi, Marshrat.

Here's the TALCB info that shows an associates degree OR 21 semester credit hours are required. Here's the breakout of the 21 hours needed. The type of courses needed to fulfill the 21 hour requirement are pretty specific.

    2. Principles of Economics (Micro or Macro)

Allied has received certification as a college and offers those classes geared toward appraisers. http://www.allied.edu/
But I highly recommend you go for a bachelor's degree as that will be the new requirement effective 2015 for any certified level.

Yep, unless you are sure you never want to be a CG... I'd get the full load

Stats and Economics... v important
Some sort of Building technology class would be useful too.

The Macro Economics classes at a college have little to do with what an appraiser deals with. The Agricultural Economics classes are much more understandable and apply to real world situations. A smaller school or on line school should be more interactive. My Macro Economics class at college had 600 students in the lecture classes and it was all lecture.
