Just wondering what life is like in Colorado - I am in the Mid-Atlantic. My 28 yr old son is considering a move to Leadville, Co for school. He has been living in the West part of the USA for about 5 years

Thanks for your honest opinions

Leadville? It's cold as ****... and high up in the Mountains... He'll love it. When he gets old and his arthritic bones ache, he'll want to be somewhere else.

Colorado no good. Too many people here already. Anywhere else is preferable. Tell your friends. We're not that friendly in CO, if you are lucky enough to even meet another Colorado native these days. We send all the outsiders right into the heart of Denver, because it's hardly even Colorado any more, down in the big city.

Nice place to visit, in summer. Great mountains.
I wouldn't want to live there. Snow is a deal breaker.

Come out to Colorado and ride the Leadville narrow gauge. You won't want to ever leave.

We are sending out all our CA homeless to you and we will take all your water we can ...:)

After 42 years in "The Former Golden State", I packed up the Griswold Family Truckster and moved to S/W Colorado with my family.
We spent 4 1/2 years there and loved every day of it.
Few people are ever sorry they moved to CO.
We're going back in a few weeks for a summer vacation.
I think he'll love it.

Funny story about CA, your state is growing at a record pace, but the growth is almost entirely immigrant based.

Meanwhile the brain drain in CA is remarkable, with one of the highest exodus rates in the country of citizen natives and professionals.

That feeling is the water starting to boil. Look around you, and get out while you're still able.

Colorado just closed though. Sorry if this was on your destination wish list. We just closed and no longer accept new applicants. Natives only, unless you specifically live in Denver. We put all the out of staters down in Denver. Colorado is not as friendly as people make it out to be. You'll definitely want to take a stroll down Colfax, before you commit.

We have stake your claim water rights. You'll get the water, but only after we're done with it.

Heck, the natives in SW Co have had to leave to find a job. The BLM, Park & Forest service jobs they used to get disappeared when fresh grads realized they could take a manual labor job with the FS and then move up the pay scale as they gained experience (and points.) All the FS offices I've been in for years are predominately non-native employees, usually grads who were biding their time as clerks and interpreters until an opening would come up in their field (biology, wildlife, etc.)

Heck, Colfax was a pithole in 1980...
