Hello Appraisersforum,

I am wondering if there is a good definition of appraisal consulting out there. I could not find it in current USPAP but I didn't look very long. My state allows consulting for qualifiying hours. I am trying to determing what type of assignments would be "consulting" maybe someone has a good definition of some examples of consulting that they could throw out there for consideration. Thanks for your time and for reading this post.

Have a great upcoming weekend!

Consulting per se was taken out of USPAP.

Consulting assignments are typically when you take off your "appraiser hat" and put on your "consultant hat." When you do this, you can act as an advocate, typically in litigation support, in a non-appraiser role. Other consulting assignments might include: advocating for an owner's tax appeal, financial modeling, or anything else that is not specifically performing an appraisal as an appraiser.

In the end, we are all professionals and some of us are highly specialized and are uniquely equipped to act as consultants for a particular facet of the real estate world.
