Does anyone have a definitive (hopefully government) source of NewYork City property section numbers (those old fashioned things, not the borough number). Other than Comps Inc? Dreaming of website with lookup of section number by the property borough block lot or address but any suggestions welcome. Any surveryors out there?

The borough number is the section number.

Dept. of Taxation and Finance shows both when you run a search.

The result of your search will show the APN for the parcel as BBL (Borough, Block and Lot).

You can also search by address if you don't have the BBL.

Although Borough Numbers essentially have appeared to function in place of Section Numbers for many many years in legal property documents in New York City, Comps Inc. Section Numbers often appear to differ from Borough Numbers.

Does anyone have a smoking gun (best a specific government document) indicating Borough Numbers have been adopted to completely replace Section Numbers? (surveyors or title searchers would know).

Incidentally, for research on older transactions (maybe 1920s) in Queens, there is a completely different system of block lot numbers (you look it up in an index based on the new numbers). You generally will not find such information online (if anyone has such a source, please share that as well).

block lot search brings up tax map section volume.
section not to be confused with boro number of BBL

but of course borough is what is generally used these days. can't think of any online government search that uses section numbers. comps inc uses section numbers for nyc. can anyone even think of another private source that uses them for NYC? and what do people put on forms for section numbers?

The above is posted on a real estate forum for the review and feedback of sophisticated real estate peers. Contemporaneous off-the-cuff information and opinions may have been stated by me, which I may later disagree with.
