I google, check State environmental and wetlands websites before bidding on most requests. I want to know what it is I am bidding on and also want to know if there are any issues that may pop up. Obviously a quick check won't oncover everything but it has saved me from under and over bidding on a number of occasions. About 90% of the work is commercial with the balance being residential and vacant that are somewhat unusual that the residential folks in the office don't want to handle. No AMC work, mostly local, regional banks and private transactions.

I google myself, in private. Will I go blind?

The borrower I could care less about as I will be meeting them in person. I appraise the house. :)

Agree. Have googled owners/neighbors or local events after the fact. Usually after hearing something at the local gossip well (town office).

Googled this guy because I had appraised a few properties nearby- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Bull

yes I do especially the MONSTER houses I do. interesting as hell who works and lives in the dc metro area. fun fact (which is completely common knowledge around here) the coach of the 'skins and the qb (RGme, RGknee, RG3nout) live across the street from each other. after the icy season they just had that has to be like a prison living so close to each other.

Sometimes, if I am curious. For instance I did a private appraisal in a cash sale, and I was curious as to how a 25+ year old could be paying 1.6 million for a house in cash.

/nothing wrong with googling a name.

What's wrong with googling Borrowers? I Google properties when I need to. I Google borrowers when I feel like it.

All tht I care about is the property s I do google that.

Will check on anything that I think is slightly suspicious. I had somebody contact me for a private appraisal last week and I looked up the property online in their name wasn't on it even though he said he was the owner. Asked him point-blank and he stopped talking to me. Found nothing on Google about him. I'm not doing the assignment. Got to be careful because you don't know who's out there

I Google the subject and the comparables.
