How do you calculate your rate for appearing as an expert witness? What are the important things to address with these clients?

I have successfully avoided this type of assignment in the past, but it's coming up more often now.
Thank You

I have a minimum 4 hr. charge and an hourly rate after that. The 4 hour includes reviewing the file and travel. I use this for court testimony/waiting around time and for any depositions prior to court.

Most appraisers I know charge about $150-$175/hr but some charge much more.

Bottom line: Don't sell yourself too cheap. Hell, my car dealership charges over $100/hr for repairs. I'm worth more than them! LOL!

When you think about what to charge per hour think about what you make per hour right now and multiple it by 6. $200 to $300 per hour is normal and includes travel, prep, etc. Make sure you know who will pay you because sometimes it is hard to collect afterwards. Get a $1,000 retainer and try to get it done within that amount.
